2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Comes After Lukewarm Response

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a more defined direction.

The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.

Trend of Key Hires

This announcement echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Team—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to mind and overhauled the title with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our audience.

The trust in this project increases every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. Following several months of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

Please join me in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to continue witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.

David

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Take on the opponents with unique powers, challenges, and challenges that change every match. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, put it on the line, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced debut schedule or consoles, but players can anticipate more updates as development continues.
