Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
